MICROCHIPPING

MICROCHIPPING -THE LAW HAS CHANGED

By law, all dogs from the age of 8 weeks must be microchipped, unless specifically exempted temporarily on health or welfare grounds. That means that if you purchase a puppy, they will usually already be microchipped and registered to the breeder. The microchip then has to be reregistered to you.

Not only must your dog be microchipped, but your details must be kept updated. This means that if you move house or your contact details change, you must inform the register. There are two main databases Anibase and Petlog (https://www.petlog.org.uk/). Your microchip registration documents will tell you which company your dog's chip is registered with, or you can enter the chip number on www.check-a-chip.co.uk/

There is a generally a charge each time you change your contact details, but it is possible to register for the premium sevice, which allows you to make unlimited changes
